Dear Members,
This is the first of our Quarterly Newsletters to inform members on news and updates in our club.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome any new members to our club. We have to date 549 members registered for 2025 and this continues to grow.
We have had a strong start to the year before a ball was kicked! The year commenced with our senior ladies and men’s teams taking additional strength and conditioning training and lots of hours spent in the Strength and Conditioning room at the clubhouse. This year we also ran a six week Strength and Conditioning programme for our
u12-17 Girls and our U12-U14 Boys teams. Those who participated in this training really enjoyed it and they have to come the new season with additional fitness. Cardiac screening will also take place next Saturday in the boys school for those members who have booked an appointment.
Training and competitions have commenced at all levels and codes with a good turn out and some strong performances to date. New Mentors/Coaches are always welcome to join the GAA club across all sports of gaelic, hurling and camogie. The pitch and adjoining car parks can be very busy so please be mindful of children in the area.
Development Works - Over the last number of months we have been working on getting our new lighting system in place. Erection of the light poles commenced last weekend and hopefully the remaining poles will be finished next weekend. Placing of cables, wiring and lights to follow. The walking track behind the goals has been widened and resurfaced. Resurfacing of our Astro pitch will commence in the next 4 - 6 weeks. Damaged signs will be replaced over the next few weeks. A Club Cleanup Day will be organised in the coming weeks. Works to the new gates and WiFi are ongoing.
I would like to thank you for your patience whilst our development works are ongoing. This is the biggest investment the club has made in infrastructure and we will have championship hurling grade lights on our main pitch and the middle and back pitches will have improved more sustainably lighting when the project is completed .
Fundraising - Senior ladies and Men’s Annual Golf Classic Fundraiser has been organised for the 25th April next in Portarlington Golf Club. All support would be greatly appreciated.
Yours in Sport
